The uninterested should run away. Now.
Also, it's a long long post. Read at your own risk.

*Assassin's Creed 1 spoilers follow*

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

First, a little bit of back-story - technical and other story aspects of the first game:

Assassin's Creed, developed by Ubisoft Montreal - the same studio that gave you the Prince Of Persia games, the Far Cry games, the Splinter Cell games and the Rainbow Six games (an impressive repertoire isn't it?) - was easily of one the most anticipated games on the 3rd Generation consoles. The game was released in 2007 - when people were still looking for how far the XBox 360 and PS3 could be stretched in terms of frame rates and graphical capabilities - we marvelled at the previews of Assassin's Creed.

A real living breathing city? No way! You can climb ANYTHING? No freakin' way!! A complete city with NO draw distance? Outta this world!

When the game finally did roll out in November 07, the reaction was bitter-sweet. People loved the graphics, the scope of the game, the premise, the plot - but the gameplay structure was criticised - people couldn't get over the sheer repetitive-ness of the actions you have to do.

The game also tricked everyone into thinking it would be the story of Altair, an Assassin, in the Holy Land in 1191, during the time of The Third Crusade who takes part in a battle against the Knights Templar. But it wasn't to be - the game is actually set in 2012, where a man named Desmond Miles, is kidnapped by a shady organisation named Abstergo. They possess this machine called the Animus, that helps them read into the memories of an ancestor. So they strap Desmond to this machine and tell him he's about to watch the memories of his ancestor, Altair Ibn La-Ahad, play out.

Now I don't want to go too much into detail of AC1. This is a AC2 review, after all.

Now, Ubisoft had their work cut-out for them: The ending of AC1 made sure that a sequel was sure to be on it's way. Fortunately for gamers, games are possibly the only art medium where sequels are routinely better than the originals:

Assassin's Creed II

Story & Characters:

Another criticism hurled at Ubisoft was the poor depiction of Altair. He spoke in a monotonous voice and had an oddly American accent while everyone else spoke in a proper Middle-Eastern accent.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze (an intimidating name at first - but you get used to it. The name is Ezio Auditore. 'da Firenze' means 'Of Florence' - his birthplace) is the protagonist of Assassin's Creed 2. This time, Desmond has to view the memories of Ezio, an Italian ancestor from the 15th Century - during the time of the historic Renaissance.

Desmond is freed from his capture in Abstergo by one their employee's: an undercover Assassin named Lucy Stillman, voiced by Kristen Bell (I forgot to mention, Desmond is also a modern day Assassin) - after weeks of planning, she breaks him out of the building, fights a dozen thugs, drops about 3 F-bombs and shoves Desmond in the trunk of her car. He's taken to an an old warehouse, where, with the help of two more allies - Rebecca Crane and Shaun Hastings (played by British comedian Danny Wallace - who wrote the book Yes Man based on his real life experiences)

To avoid the faceless wooden shadow of a character that was Altair, we're given a more personal approach to Ezio - the game starts off with his birth, acting as a tutorial for the face buttons. Needless to say, we're introduced to his mother, Maria - engaged in the difficult job giving birth - and his father, Giovanni (also an Assassin) arriving a tad bit late to witness the birth of his second son.

Fast forward 17 years. Ezio is living the life - rich Italian carefree guy knee deep in pussy. The scene opens fantastically, in a homage to Gangs Of New York where Ezio and his gang are facing off against a childhood rival, Vieri de' Pazzi. Enter Ezio's elder brother, Federico - a likeable character I wish we could've had more of. Now, Ezio's dad, unfortunately hasn't seen worse times - now it's Giovanni's turn to get knee deep - in shit - when he, being the Assassin that he is - learns of a conspiracy to overthrow Lorenzo de Medici. Needless to say, the conspirators don't just let this pass.

When Ezio comes back from an errand, he learns that his father and two brothers (the youngest being Petrucio - a character I'm glad we didn't have more of) have been apprehended by the guards and are being held in a tower. Ezio, using his parkour skills, reaches the tower - and is told by his dad to search for something important in a chest in the house - a letter to Uberto Alberti, Lorenzo's assistant. Ezio does as he is told. He also finds Assassin's robes in the chest, and in a moment of superhero-splender puts on the robes - to look all awesome and all.

Well turns out Uberto is the betrayer. Thus, Ezio's father and two brothers are hanged right before his eyes.

The rest is a tale of how Ezio gets revenge on the conspirators - he kills Uberto, then meets his uncle Mario - who tells him of the Assassin's Creed and how his father was part of it. Ezio then goes from person to person, extracting information and delving further into the conspiracy - realizing Lorenzo's planned assassination was just a small part of it.

This is where my gripes start - the story starts off well and ends excellently - the middle is where it gets hazy. It almost feels like the story is there just as an excuse to assassinate people. It boils down to -

*go to kill guy*

*spot said guy with another guy - or original guy references second guy while talking*

*search and go to kill second guy*

*spot second guy with third guy - or second guy references third guy while talking*

Rinse. Repeat.

This happens through most of the story. Another gripe is that some assassinations don't feel of much value - unlike AC1, not much information is extracted from the people you've killed. It's like it's there just for the heck of it.

Ezio's events in AC2 are set over a period of 23 years - yes, you start off with a 17 year old punk and end up with a 40 year old bearded guy. The bad thing is, it doesn't feel that way. Except for maybe, Ezio's beard and his deepened voice - there are no other signs of ageing. Not only for Ezio - the other characters remain exactly the same for 22 years. And it's not just about physical appearance either - except for Ezio - none of the characters personalities, or their relationship with Ezio actually develop in those 23 years. If you don't pay attention to the year showed before every memory sequence - it would just feel like the game takes place over a couple of months.

However, if I had to rate the story - I'd give it a 7.5 on 10 - mostly because of the strong opening 1 hr as well as the ending 30 mins or so. The game explore's Ezio origin very well - the deception he faced and the trauma he had to go through.

I've always loved Ubisoft how intertwined the story of Assassin's Creed 1 with real life events - most of the 'targets' that you eliminate in that game are based on real life figures - most of whom died mysterious deaths. The Assassin's were a real sect and so were The Knights Templar. Altair's mentor, Al Mualim is based off a real person.

Unisoft does the same thing with AC2 - to an even greater extent. Lorenzo de Medici was a real person - and so were the Pazzi's as well as the whole 'overthrow Lorenzo' plot - known as the Pazzi Conspiracy. In fact - I'd say most of the people you kill are based on real people. The main antagonist of this game is Rodrigo Borgia aka Pope Alexander VI (read up on how he died - the game has an explanation fr that as well)

And how could I forget the biggest name of all - Leonardo da Vinci. The one we meet here is a young Leonardo - cheery and as helpful as ever. Leonardo is Ezio's best friend and closest ally - da Vinci helps him with his 'gadgets' - hidden blades, hidden guns, flying machines and whatnot.

Yes, I said flying machines.

        Ezio with Leonardo

More notable figures include Niccolò Machiavelli and Caterina Sforza. Both allies who help you on your way.

Graphics & Presentation

Oh yeah - now that we have cribbing out of the way - lets talk about the good stuff!

Italy is one of the best things about this game - the sheer detail into every little thing is marvellous. There were parts of AC1 I didn't like - the cities all looked the same except for a different tinge of colour to them. In AC2, it is NOTHING like that.

The locations featured in the game are Florence (Firenze), Venice (Venezia), Forli, the Apennine Mountains, Tuscany and the little bit of The Vatican City - The Sistine Chapel, in particular. Most of the landmarks you would see in the real cities are in the game - so detailed that you'd be hard pressed to find any differences between the two. Running the rooftops of Venice is as satisfying as walking through the streets.

The beggar women of Jerusalem are gone - to be replaced by bards that sing in your face. The streets are full of men hard at work - building, carrying boxes and wood, or just strolling the streets. The women are a sight to look at as well. Citizens travel in groups, mostly. You can infiltrate these groups and walk among them - thereby blending in - to avoid the sights of archers and guards. You'll find shopkeepers sweeping the streets in front of their shop.

At regular intervals you'll find heralds, the media of that day and age. The shout out news and announcements to whoever can hear them - You can bribe them to stop talking about your deeds.

Ezio can swim, unlike his Middle-Eastern counterpart - and, for what might seem an odd compliment - the water looks marvellous. I've never seen water rendered so beautifully in a video game. The land scape is fantastic as well.

However a game of this magnitude can't be without its problems - I did encounter screen tearing and graphical glitches at some stages - especially in the tombs (linear Prince of Persia-like segments). But that's a small price to pay for such an amazing looking game.

Sound is something I have to touch upon. The characters sound excellent - everyone, without a single exception. I especially like the idea of interjecting English with a little Italian - it sounds lovely. I would've preferred it if the background music was more prominent though. Only at times is it really noticeable - but during those times it's beyond excellent.

Graphics: 9/10

Gameplay

And so we boil down to the most important part of any video game - the gameplay, something AC1 suffered from.

I'll start with what AC is famous for - platforming. Ezio runs and climbs as excellently as Altair did. I did have a couple of problems with the controls though: Ezio jumping in a direction I didn't want him to jump.

AC1 was criticized for having easy combat - Well, AC2 is even easier, and you have more tools at your disposal - Poison, smoke bombs, throwing knives, swords, daggers and even a small gun.

Ubisoft have added as much variety as they could have - we now have a variety of side missions to attempt - Assassinations, races, courier missions and beat em ups! And sometimes, just to spice things up - Ezio can get pick-pocketed. If that happens, the thief has to chased across the rooftops - which provides for some pretty fun distractions.

Ezio has 3 factions helping him this time around - Thieves, mercenaries and courtesans. They don't really come in much use but its nice to have them as an option.

The biggest change, perhaps is the way the story is structured - it's much more linear this time around, much like GTA. Most of the investigations from the previous game have been thrown out.

Eagle Vision is something that comes in much greater use here - Often, you have to search for your target using Eagle Vision. It changes the screen to darker colours and your target glows yellow.

Your synchronisation bar is no longer a synchronisation bar - it's a normal health bar this time. Road side doctors can be used. They heal you for 50 florins, the in game currency. There's a whole economic system at work here. You can gain money through assassinations or other missions. You can also search treasure chests which are spread all over Italy - or if you're looking for quick money, you can always pickpocket civilians. This money can be spent, not only on doctors, but also on weapons and upgrades.

Ezio takes shelter at his Uncle's villa - which he agree's to help renovate. You pay the architect to renovate the area - this brings more tourists there, which increases the money being spent by them. This money can be collected and spent later. The problem with this system is that by the end of the game you end up with a shitload of money and nothing to spend it on. You can also buy paintings for your villa to spruce it up. The more money spent, the more you get in return.

You can also dye your clothes with various pre-set colour schemes.. this serves no real purpose other than to make your clothes look pretty.

All in all, there's tons of stuff to do here.. which will keep you occupied for a long long time. I haven't even mentioned the collectibles. 100 feathers are spread all over the locations for you to collect. You get two rewards as you progress towards the 100 mark. The Glyph's are another collectible feature. Apparently, the last person who used the Animus to come to Italy left a few puzzles which, when unravelled reveal a bigger, larger plot.

So, except for combat, gameplay has undergone a huge improvement: 9/10

Closing Comments:

AC2 is a wonderful improvement over the previous game, with only a few flaws that keep it from being a truly perfect game. I was struggling to decide between this one and Batman:AA for my personal Game Of The Year - it was pretty much a stale mate at the time that I finished both the games.. but's AC has something Batman didn't have - repeat value. I tried to play Batman for a second time, but couldn't - it was too boring. However, AC2 just makes me keep coming back - sometimes to replay a few missions or to just roam the streets of Italy.

Overall: 9.5/10

Specs: I played AC2 on the XBox 360, without any kind of extra content since I don't have Xbox Live. The first playthrough took 24hrs to complete, and 27hrs along with feathers and glyphs. Second playthrough consisted of only the story missions and viewpoints, which was 11hrs, 30mins.

PS: Sorry if the latter half of this post has a more mechanical writing style than the initial part - I got tired writing :(

Back

Have you ever looked at your own old posts or any kind of writings and realised how stupid you were?

First off, my apologies for not writing since September. I don't want to disclose any reasons, expect for maybe lethargy - but there were other factors at work as well. So after my Semester 1 exams, a bout of very severe Chicken Pox, watching a ton of movie's, repeated plodding from my friend, and a very bad pun that I found terribly difficult to resist ( I was going to post a picture of someone's back) - I've decided to try blogging again.

I also want to make a few things clear. If you've been following my blog for long enough (yeah, right) you've surely read my post on The Wandering Weasel.

And if you've not, please do. It's not very long, because the following is going to be about that post.

Now, I'd like to make it clear that, the post was complete bullshit. I told myself to come up with a stupid title (because I wanted to change the name of my blog - and I couldn't come up with a better one - so I went the other way - why not think of a stupider one!). I then convinced myself to come up with the most atrocious justification for it. And that's what I came up with. (Pretty good stuff, right? Well, if the Indian Education Board has taught me anything these 14 years of studying - it's how to bullshit my way through anything)

I'm happy with the current name - taken from the sequel to Alice In Wonderland. I read the books before my Sem 1 exams - both classy takes on the literary nonsense genre. The name was in anticipation of the Tim Burton movie. Tim Burton, Jhonny Depp, Helena Carter. How could it possibly go wrong, right? Well it did. I'm keeping the name, though. I love it.

Continuing with Weasel - I know, I'm sorry - one of my most deepest posts was pure hullabaloo. I'm also sorry for the sheer crap this blog has churned out most of the time:

Lalala

Valentine's Day

There's more of this nonsense - but I'm not going to spoon feed you, you hobo's. Try searching. I'll try to write more coherent posts now (starting next time?).

What? From every direction, its all just a big pack of lies. That's exactly what they said while we were in the 1oth Standard, all preparing for those gawdimportant Boards. They repeated it when were in the 12th, making it sound, then, that 12th is important, not 10th.

I especially hated this part. In the 12th we're told that 10th isn't that big a deal.. its just to get admission into a junior college, and once that is accomplished, the marks are as useful as that tail-thing we all have above our bloody arse. Then why, while in the 10th, did they make such a big deal out of it? By, 'they', you should have guessed by now, I mean parents and maybe certain teachers as well.

I got, what I think, at that time, were decently good marks. Distinction at least. (Darn you Hindi-Marathi). I Got into a thoroughly shitty college, that only now, do I understand, was terribly shitty. That's where I heard the 'Just this year' statement for the second time. To put it in their exact words

"Study for only this year, Dylan. Then you'll be able to enjoy afterwards"

What a fucking joke.

They hit me with that line in the 10th, then in the 12th, and now in my first year of engineering.
If that's taught me anything, it's never to believe them. They're only saying that to keep you from realizing the horrible truth of the cycle of life and thus keep you from committing suicide.. (or homicide, for that matter). No doubt this will go on and on.

Life is one never-ending cycle that refuses to get better.
End Of Story.

Choices all Spoilt

The day I walk in to a supermarket to buy a can of cheese, and see 100 different cans of cheese, different flavours, different sizes, different shapes, different colours, I'll run out screaming or more probably just buy a Dairy Milk chocolate bar (which are, thankfully, still in production) and act like nothing ever happened.

Whatever happened to those original packets of foodstuffs? The only Lays chips that I liked were the very first ones, with no sub-title. Just that memorable tag line, "You can't eat just one." If I go to a store today, chances are that version of Lays doesn't exist anymore. Instead its replaced with all sorts of flavours- 'American', 'Tomato', 'Spicy Tango' and a whole bunch more, more noticeably a horrible 'Chaat' flavour.

7UP recently joined the bandwagon with a disastrous 'Nimbooz' drink, supposedly lime juice. I for one, hate it.
Hate it not because it tastes like Cow piss, not because the shop owner looks at me in great surprise, when I ask for the "Original 7UP drink", but because I have to make a choice, and that too a stupid one.

Which gets me to my real point - I don't like making choices. I can make decisions when it matters, but don't ask me if I prefer Appy Fizz or Grappy Fizz. The answer will usually be the original - Appy.

What made me think of this was when playing the video game Spider-man: Web Of Shadows. That game has 4 different endings, based on the choices you make through out the game. I like to play games completely- to the fullest. Games like GTA: Vice City Assassins Creed - I've left no stone unturned, finished the game 100%. But when it comes to games with choices, I just have to play the whole game more than once.. In the case of Fallout 3, which is said to have 500 different endings, I don't know what I'll do. Just take the best choice and just not play the game? Yes! Buy a C instead of cheese? Yes!

But then, I just don't see it stopping anytime soon. As long the big companies are greedy for money, they'll just keep rolling out new flavours. I won't be surprised, if 500 years down the line, Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans is a reality.

Reboot

I just returned from my very last interaction with anything remotely related to my 12th Standard and CET Classes. As is the norm with them, our sirs threw us a party the day after the CET. The atmosphere was excellent and the place terrific. Food not so good, but this not a review of the party.

I just had, possibly, my last interaction with my classmates from classes. I've grown close to them, to that class, and the teachers. After all for nearly 3 long years, its been my second-home. And now its all over and I've not even absorbed it yet. Its all over. What I had been studying for so many years just passed by in a day. Just one day. An end of one of the memorable periods of my life.

Which brings me to the topic, Reboot. I'll be joining a new college and for the first time, ever, I'll be setting foot in an altogether new institution (my college was my school). This is good and bad. I loved my school but when I went to it as a college it wasn't very appealing, so I'm glad to be leaving. Going to a new college allows for a reboot. The people don't know you, you don't know them. You both probably have a past, but that's irrelevant initially and everyone gets to start anew.

So here's a toast, to a new life! And a new blog title!

Half Time! The pages load quickly, downloads are at the speed of sound and videos don't have loading time (save for some high quality ones).

As per what my Mom told me, my internet was supposed to have been only for a 15hr period. Because thats what she paid, for the 15hour pack. Well guess what? It's not! How is that possible? I have no idea.. maybe I did it on accident. My internet has been on for the last 76 hours, downloading Assassin's Creed (which was eventually corrupted), movies and some albums. I've disconnected and reconnected numerous times, but I always got through. How do I do this? Well, all I know is that I created a separate connection with the same values as the dialer they provided. I don't use the ISP software to connect to the internet, and hence, they probably think I've not used any internet hours at all yet. This is a first. It all started with me going to Crossword, because I had

nothing better to do. They do sell video games at Crossword. Oddly recent games like Tomb Raider: Legend and Hitman:

Bloodmoney were priced at just Rs. 300. I had to get the game. After about 2 hours of deliberating I decided to get

Tomb Raider: Legend.

What made me get the game? Gamer TV gave it a 5/5 rating. I make a mental note of every 5/5 Gamer TV game. Lets see,

Star Wars Lego.. Ghost Recon 360.. Legend Of Zelda Wii.. there are more which I don't have time to remember..

Anyway to the game, the plot is pretty well, creative to say the least. Lara, on investigating the death of her mother, realizes that she has to get the sword of Excalibur, the parts of which are scattered in different countries. The game follows Lara to these diverse countries. The scenery is amazing, although I when I switched on the "Next Generation" display setting the game speed reduced to a halt.. almost.

The countries are as diverse as Bolivia, Peru, Japan, Kazhakistan, Ghana, and Nepal. Each country has a different piece of the sword.

Also, Lara is looking her best yet in this game. Check this out
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/ff/LaraCroftTombRaiderEvoWUnderw.jpg

Lara's tricks are dependent on timing. Theres no specific tutorial for the tricks, you have to find that out yourself. Like pressing the F key the right number of times and at the correct intervals will get her to somersault and stuff.

What impressed me was the combat, although I had to change the weapon keys, the combat was extremely fluid.

Also, I didn't get bored at all. Lara has some really funny and witty conversations with Zip (her right hand man), who speaks to her via some satellite thing from her mansion. Its sorta like the Prince Of Persia talking to himself or having conversations with his darker side.

Another new feature is the use of a magnetic grapple, which is used to attach to higher objects and then swing from it or to pull objects towards herself.

The game is fairly easy (in Normal mode) and short too. I finished the whole thing in 2 days. Gamespot had an issue with the length and the camera angles. The camera angles are pretty good actually, save for some instances, and some levels. The camera goes berserk during the last boss battle.
Also, sometimes Lara doesnt respond properly. For example, Lara will sometimes do a back flip even though you've pressed Right and Jump.

Frankly, I couldn't find too many faults with the game, or maybe I'm just overlooking them. Even if there are some, the other aspects more than make for it.

FPS w/o the S

I've not always liked games which focus on combat, although I do play them for lack of choice. But its always great to see a non-combat game come along (I'm not talking of RTS or RPG's). Looks like EA DICE (yet another EA branch) have taken the initiative. A game called "Mirror's Edge" will be out soon. Unfortunately theres no real gameplay footage yet, but what I've heard of the game is awesome. Believe it or not, its an FPS, without guns! So its not a shooter, its just FP.. The game is like Assassins Creed (but not Sandbox). It involves a girl called "Faith" who can scale any surface. The focus is on jumping & running from building to building. Here you outrun enemies instead of fighting them. I thought HD-DVD might overdo BD (Blu-ray Disc), not that I was rooting for it, I just thought that the HDDVD might win.. but guess not..

Microsoft Pulls Plug on HD DVD Players

All About Blu-ray

25 GB!!!!

The 80th Annual Academy Awards

A bald guy with a sword covered in gold. Talking about those who stand.. its like every other passenger in that bus is the enemy. Each and every person standee on that bus has the same thoughts running through his or her head.

"Why did so many people have to come today? It wasn't so full yesterday.."
"Why is he not moving ahead?"
"Why is that guy pushing"
"Why do such FAT women have to travel by bus?"
"Thank god.. a bus stop.. some people will get out now"
"Damn.. there are more people getting in"
"Ouch!!"
"He just stamped my toe!"
"Darn.. that little kid is standing on my shoe lace on purpose"
"Does that bus conductor HAVE to keep moving around?"

As stated before, everyone is everyone else's enemy. They look at each other in a really disgraceful manner, (except if the other person is really hot).

The Battle begins when a sitee opts to become a standee (and eventually leave the bus). Now, as soon as the concerned sitee shows signs of getting up, about six pairs of eyes dart towards him. Now, only 2 people are in the battle. The person standing right beside the sittee , and the person standing either behind or in front of him. Who the person challenges is determined by which direction he moves to let the sittee out. If he moves behind, he challenges the person in front of him, and if he moves in front he challenges the person behind him. The winner is usually determined by the person who manages to jut his leg in first.

So we they all hate each other.. and love too.. since they HAVE to stand each other for those minutes..

There are times when standees are granted the authority to remove a sittee by force. This usually happens when Men sit in Women's seats. Hence Men refrain to do that.
Also OLD people are granted the same authority.

I'm bad at concluding posts. :/

Bye.

Note
The above theory goes into practice only when THE BUS IS PACKED WITH PEOPLE.
There is no word such as sittee.

Transparency

I like the word 'Transparency'. Brrr. Brrr.

I know thats a stupid way to start a post, but thats how I feel right now. Mumbai is freezing. Its never been so cold in all the years that I've lived here. And I've lived here all my life. At night all the fans are off, and I wear a sweater and socks when I go to sleep. Not only that I put one of those really thick blankets. So I'm pretty much covered with thick stuff from head to toe. But its still so cold. Even during the day, I wear a T-Shirt inside another shirt. Now if only I had gloves and one of those cool woolly hats..
I prefer the cold to the heat anyday. I'd rather freeze to death than burn to death. Its not everyday Mumbai gets so cold.. but its almost everyday Mumbai gets really really hot.. so I'm trying to "enjoy" the cold to the fullest. Don't ask how.

The 4th trailer for GTA4 is here!! And they're like.. just walking so slowly, you get REALLY irritated at them..

I mean don't they know there are people who have a LIFE? They block the whole path!!

Then there are some friends, or families that are so many and they walk in a group. Not even a group. More like a horizontal line. Like a wall. And it hurt. Bad. Like.. real bad. Its this boil that somehow finds the eye, one of the worst places a boil can place itself. The weird thing is that it I got another one about a week ago. Fortunately that burst, after hours of excruciating pain. But that burst in two days and that was all good. No more pain.

A week later its back, on the same eye! But now its more persistent. It probably went to bring back up or something. Probably upgraded its skills after training some place, or maybe learnt some *cough* Hitten Mitsouruki 9 Headed Dragon Technique *cough* or something.

The last time it burst while I was having a bath. This time, it didn't. I was hoping it did. But it didn't.
This one hurt a lot more. My eye shrunk for the initial part of the day. After noon it was a little better. Then at night it shrunk again. Odd.

Now its gone. Almost. Went to the doctor. No Hitten Mitsouruki can oppose the might of the doctor. Had to put some medicine on it.

For The Sake Of It

I'm Bang! in the middle of the exams. We have three holidays though. And then three continuous papers without a single holiday - Chemistry (the big daddy of all our exams, the one that everyones been dreading), E.V.S. (why do we even have this stupid subject? >_<) and Hindi (just mugging up loads and loads of huge answers)
We're getting grilled here. Unlike some other people who seem to be getting up at 4 in the morning and wandering aimlessly about.

I hate the Mumbai traffic. I was late for my 12th Std Physics lecture yesterday because it took me an exasperating 45 minutes to reach a destination at peak hour. It takes me only 9 minutes to reach that place in the morning, with no traffic (I mean really early, like 6.30am). Heh.. I know its exactly 9 minutes because sometimes I put on "Jesus of Suburbia" by Greenday right went I get on to the bus and the songs ends EXACTLY when I get off. Cool ne?

In case you're wondering (which you probably aren't), I have headphones.. connected to my K750i cell phone. They're my third headsets, the other two -one original k750 headset and the other a W-Series Headset, both got spoilt >_<
Lucky for me my dad decided to but a SE phone for himself and I he gave me the headsets :D

We had to attend a talk on sex yesterday (I've lost count of all the 'talks' they make us attend). Of course we weren't told it was going to be about sex, we were just told "some guy is coming for a talk and its compulsory and they're gonna take attendance"
Thats all thats needed for students to make an effort to come. The word "compulsory" and "attendance" is all thats needed.
Oddly that sir was referring to sexual organs as "procreative faculty"
Lol. Thats the weirdest thing I've heard this week.

I'm typing stuff as its coming into my head.. this post has not been predetermined in any way.

Hollywood needs writers. They're facing all sorts of problems. The Oscars and Grammy's are in danger of getting canceled this year. Hope that doesn't happen. It did with the Golden Globes. I think production of HEROES 2 has halted as well.
American Idol Season 8 started some days ago. Pretty good until now I guess.
Fortunately Jay Leno is continuing his show despite the lack of writers. I like The Tonight Show :)

I'm reading Air Gear now. 6 Volumes done.

I got some games from my friend recently. Prince Of Persia Two Thrones, Prince Of Persia Warrior Within, FIFA 2007, and Tomb Raider Legends.
Sad to say only PoPT2T is working. Others aren't even installing. :(

India won the Perth Test. Now they'll lose the next one. Guarantee.

T_T

My life is boring right now.. theres absolutely nothing to post about. Now, as far as I've seen, this name has been pronounced is so many different ways I couldn't keep track of them. My parents, and other relatives call me Di-lun ("Di" as in the one in "dignity")

Thats what my parents want the official version of my name to be. Thats also what the people in my building call me, due to which they often misspell the name.

Outside my building its a different story. My school calls my Die-lun.
When they first starting calling me this in my early school years, I really didn't give a damn. Didn't bother to correct them.

There was a certain special classes I used to attend some years ago. A guy there used to call me "Dinal" Don't ask why. He just did. >_<

There wasn't any real version that I preferred. Until one of my friends in the 8th Standard decided to call me "Dilin"
I really wasn't bothered what he called me then, but then a few months later, I decided I liked the name Dilin. So I kept it. So now if anyone asks me what my name is, "I'm Dilin" ^_^

Its just odd coincidence that one of my close net pals calls me Dilin too, even though I didn't tell her anything of the above.

My school still calls me Die-lun though. And its continued at the college level as well.
I now use the Dielun-Dilin name strategy to categorize my friends. :P

Now the question remains : What did you call me?

As a side note-
I saw this in the morning paper today. (Hindustan Times' Sunday magazine Brunch to be exact)
It made me smile. So I'm sharing it.

The Pen Evades Me

What is with a pen? Its so obscure, something so small.. so timid, so humble.. and yet so deceitful and Machiavellian. It evades us all. It doesn't care whether its cheap or expensive. It doesn't even care whether its urgently needed.

I hate you pen. I hate you.

Ever noticed how we can never find a pen when we need one? I take only pen to school. Why? I dunno. I'm just too lazy.

So this companionless pen decided to suddenly give in one day. Without any warning (I could still see the ink on the sides, but it decided to stay there). So I go around asking people for a pen.. hoping they have an extra one. LIKE HELL THEY DO!!

Turns out in the whole class of 60+ students, not one. NOT ONE of them had a pen!! An EXTRA pen. Either that or they all suddenly decided to hate me.

So I slug out the day with a pencil.

I come home, and voila, no pen at home either. How could we have no pen at home? Dunno..

I had then to go out and buy one. Something I should've done long ago.

I now guard that pen with my life. Its mightier than any sword I've seen. (... and I've not seen any swords, up-close, anyway)

Oddly another crazy thing would be that it strangely disappears. One minute its there, and the other other its not! Its got a mind of its own. It purposely rolls away from you.. drops to the ground and rolls again. Positive to finally sit in a place that is hard to reach.

If this is not possible, then the pen does something even more irritating. It apparently sends messages to all its other body-parts to detach from the main body. One of them always does. Sometimes the pen cap, sometimes the bottom, or sometimes that other shiny cap that goes over the nib.

In extreme cases you'll find the refill missing.

-----------

Theres a really funny Jerry Seinfeld Stand-Up Video I wanted to post. But unfortunately, I can't seem to find it.

Weasel Wanderings

After asking about 10 different people for blog names, I finally settled on the first one that had come up in my mind. It wasn't approved by anyone, sure. Thats the reason I chose the name. *ahem* This is MY BLOG.

But I do appreciate the help given by Shadslayer and Sinn. Thankyou, people :D

Now to the point-

First and foremost, I am NOT a weasel. The animal Weasel does not in anyway represent me.

My previous blog name, Pop! Goes The Weasel, was child-like, symbolizing a sort of innocence and novelty. I henceforth change the name to Weasel Wanderings. The blog will now have a different theme as well, along with a custom made banner, possibly a new one every month.

Why Weasel Wanderings? Well, its to show maturation. Another year of life gone by. Surely you'll agree that Weasel Wanderings is more mature than Pop! Goes The Weasel? Maybe not very very mature, but enough.
The "Weasel" is still there. Its to show that inside, I may still be a kid at heart. Maybe if somebody can tap into the "inner Dylan", he might resurface?
The "Weasel" is still there to show that the blog will have the same benevolence it has had so far.
The "Wandering" may be for various reasons. A homage to my favorite anime, Rurouni Kenshin perhaps? Or maybe to indicate that the blog will feature more pictures of other places?

So will the content of the Blog mature? That is yet to be known, even by myself. But I'll try my best. Content is always King.

To a happy and prosperous New Year, I raise a toast. A virtual toast.
As of when this post has been posted, 140 Minutes to Midnight.

Parties :D

Its the final days of December now, with 2007 coming to a close. The year-end means one thing: PARTY TIME!! :D

Now, not that I'm a party animal. Heck I'm anything but that. I avoid uncomfortable social situations. Actually, for me almost every social situation is uncomfortable. [="Chandler"]

This time of the year, people are invited to almost every man-made function available. Everything is held NOW!! The Christianings, Weddings, Baptisms, just plain stupid partys and even funerals.
Well, no actually not funerals. But everything else. Me and my pack got invited to the above. Thats why my Mom's in some other part of India right now. Dad will be leaving as soon as Mom gets back. I think..
I'm stuck because of stupid stupid classes. Stupid stupid classes. Stupid stupid classes. Get it?

Anyway, to the point- I found myself (and the mom) at a wedding recently. We were only invited because the bride was one of my Mom's students. So, we had no idea what to do there to pass time. Sitting in a corner, virtually ignored by all the waiters, and everyone else. Nobody knew us at all. We sat, looking around every now and then. The party was actually very lively. It was also very well decorated. Good food too. Just the crowd was underestimated. There was shortage of chairs, and I knew there would be shortage of food too.

The very purpose 80% of people attend weddings is for the food. The chicken this, the mutton that etc etc. I usually wait for sometime after dinner is announced and the grace before meals. I was gonna wait this time too.

But.

The same sentence rang through my head: "Nobody knows us" "Nobody knows us" and then.. it grew louder.. and made more sense.. "Nobody Knows Us" and then it hit me- "Nobody knows us!!! Use it to your advantage!!!!" So I strutted right across the dance floor, disturbing everyone. Got to the food counters, stuffed my plate up with everything possible. And then slowly walked right across the middle of the dance floor again.. this time much slower so that everyone had to stop dancing, and wait for me to pass.

Then I reached my table and gobled everything up.

And then we met the bride and left.

Thats all. ^_^

EDIT: Just got word theres another wedding tommorow. Sayonara.

Mary XMas, blessings from Mother Teresa

Sure, I'm wishing very very late. Can be very useful you know-

Hello - tall, dark and obnoxious!

I researched your entire family tree and it seems you were the sap.

We all spring from apes, but you didn't spring far enough.

Keep talking, I always yawn when I'm interested

I heard your parents took you to a dog show and you won.

There was something about you that I liked, but you spent it.

Have you considered suing your brains for non-support?

Any friend of yours - is a friend of yours.

You are so dumb, you play solitaire...for cash.

Can I borrow your head for my rock garden?!

I bet your brain feels as good as new, seeing that you've never used it.

Your face is a waste of molecules.

You are so old, you sat next to Jesus in school.

You make me believe in reincarnation. Nobody can be as stupid as you in one lifetime.

You are so stupid, when you heard 90% of all accidents happen in the home, you went out.

Do you want me to accept you as you are, or do you want me to like you?

I look into your eyes and get the feeling someone else is driving.

You know, I do understand you. I have a way with dumb animals.

Look, don't go to a mind reader; go to a palm reader; I know you've got a palm.

--->http://www.insultmonger.com/generators/quipmonger.htm

Pearls before Swine

My favourite comic strip, after This Is Our Life

Of Volgo's and Stinky Water..

So I stayed home from college today. Me, for example right now.

OK, todays first topic.. Ayo Technology. Non-Music junkies will have no idea what this is. Music junkies will have an idea in probably a week or so.

Ayo Technology - 50 Cent feat. Justin Timberlake

Where there's JT, theres TL >> Timbaland I mean. He appears everywhere with JT. No exception here. He appears in the video too.

Now, more about the new single.
Its from 50's new album, Curtis. I'm not a big 50 Cent fan, but this song is pretty good. JT and Timbaland make it work. They always do. That Timbaland's a genius...

----

In other genres, Corbin Bleu, some random guy with fluffy hair, has come out with Push It To The Limit.
